Silverlight 3 Released

by Glenn Chittenden Jr. on Jul.11, 2009, under Software

Well, Microsoft has released Silverlight 3.0, meaning I now have to update my Expression software (once the new version is released).  Overall, SL3 seems to have some nice features for applications, though little improvement for component developers.

As I mess with SL3, I’ll probably be posting some simple apps to this site for everyone to play with.  Nothing too special; just me messing around with various SL features.

Bad XBOX, Bad!

by Glenn Chittenden Jr. on Jul.03, 2009, under Tech

I’ve had my XBOX for 11 months and today had to send it off to be repaired.  Out of nowhere it started to lock up in games or while browsing the dashboard.  Hopefully it won’t take too long to get it back.

I’m not much of a gamer, but I already miss it.  I’m really looking forward to Assassin’s Creed 2.

Inspector Twain 3.0 Beta

by Glenn Chittenden Jr. on Jun.20, 2009, under Software, Tech

You may or may not know that I developed an application named Inspector Twain a couple years ago.  The purpose of this software is to see if TWAIN drivers were following the specification, and this caught the attention of a lot of driver developers as well as the TWAIN Working Group.

Thanks to my efforts with Inspector Twain and DotTwain, our .NET Scanning SDK, Atalasoft is now a board member of the TWAIN Working Group and the TWG is using Inspector Twain 3.0 as a certification tool for TWAIN drivers.  Currently it’s only available to members of TWG, but will be released as a public beta soon.   The beta is expected to last 6 months to allow driver developers to fully test it, provide any feedback and report any bugs.

My hope is that in a couple years most TWAIN drivers will be more stable and compatible with TWAIN compliant applications.

What Nerve

by Glenn Chittenden Jr. on Jul.05, 2008, under General

I’ve had a pinched nerve in my neck for over a week. Yesterday it caused my left arm to start hurting and this morning my left hand was tingling. I finally decided to go to the hospital and see if it could be something major.

They believed I was right about it being a pinched nerve but ran an EKG on me since the symptoms were similar to a heart problem; it came out normal. So they gave me a couple prescriptions for the pain and want me to get some physical therapy. If it doesn’t go away they will have to do an MRI to take a look at the nerves.

On another note: I found that someone hit my car this morning. It looks like they were backing out of the parking space next to me and turned before they were clear. It scraped the paint off the back side and pulled part of the bumper guard out of position. There’s no way to know who did it and it’s not enough damage that I would bother fixing; it just pisses me off that someone would do that and not leave a note.
